Sistema Scotland is a charity on a mission to improve lives and strengthen communities over the long term using music and nurturing relationships. Their Big Noise orchestral programmes engage with children and young people in five of Scotland’s most disadvantaged communities: Raploch and Fallin in Stirling, Govanhill in Glasgow, Torry in Aberdeen and Douglas in Dundee – with Wester Hailes in Edinburgh set to join the family in spring 2022. Children take part in immersive and fun musical sessions delivered by inspirational staff musicians, building important life skills through the challenges and rewards of learning to play an instrument in an orchestra. Big Noise is fully inclusive and delivered entirely free of charge, supporting children and young people to reach their potential and lead successful and fulfilled lives.
“Big Noise to me means music and life. It doesn’t just improve your music skills, it improves your teamwork skills, your independence, your improvisation. Even taking part in an orchestra can help you overcome your fears. Some people think Big Noise is just a music group, but it is so much more than that to the people that take part.” – Big Noise Participant
